Autumn Feast of Jazz

Does Jazz have a future in Bristol? Well lets hope Jazz at the Future Inn has a good run. Ian Storror, he of the late lamented Jazz at the Albert, is booking the bands at a new venue in Bristol. The preview sounded promising, so here’s hoping. Don Weller this week, then an enticing line-up with the Jazz settling on Sunday night by the looks. Be Bop programme is also promising both for local luminaries and visitors; Kit Downes trio in November I see. St Georges has some big names with Bad Plus later in the season.

All in all, plenty to look forward to with the Colston Hall all day fun next weekend culminating with Abdullah Ibrahim. I’m nervous about that one; I last saw him at Bath festival a few years ago, and the quiet intensity of the trio captivated a packed Pavilion for a long set… can it possibly be as good?
