Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival Programme Launched, Friday 8th November, Colston Hall

Friday’s launch event for next year’s festival was a blast (a longer piece for London Jazz is up) and a teasing reminder of the buzz created in the Colston Hall’s foyer and bars by the festival.  There are some bona fide legends playing as well as plenty of our home grown heroes. My favourite musical moment of last Friday had to be Celestine Walcott taking a deep breath and launching into ‘I wish I know how it felt to be free’. Pure gospel, pure gold.  My favourite moment of festival programme excitement was pointing out to local hero drummer Tony Orrell that ‘some guy from The Metres is playing (at the festival in March)’ – he looks, eyes light up, big grin spreads across face “.. that’s the drummer! I’m coming!”  Let’s hope plenty more of us take the same line.   Keep an eye on http://www.bristoljazzandbluesfest.com/ for more details.
